UNIFONY

Over the past ten years, the two friends Minco and Theodoor have been working together on several projects. Mostly on solo-albums or soundtracks by Minco that Theodoor recorded. But ever since Theodoor came back from a summer-break on Iceland and decided to rebuild his studio from scratch, he and Minco have been talking about this new idea. The idea of a high-end studio-project of creating music together without any preparations but with a specific inspiring musician in mind that they would write music for.

Inspired by the 80s and by the use of high quality and vintage instruments this is a studio-only-project. For three years (off and on) they retreated from daily life, collecting and installing all their instruments, computers, tape delays and taperecorder and created an invitation that Norwegian trumpeter Mathias Eick (ECM) happily accepted. As within the UNIFONY - project, every album is a joint-venture befriended guest-musicians (on the second album they work together with pianist Aaron Parks and sax-player Oskar Gudjonsson). According to the legendary engineer/mixer Phill Brown (known for his work with Talk Talk, David Bowie and Brian Eno) who mixed UNIFONY later explained that this atmosphere of calm is a true ‘labour of love’, something one will come across rarely. This unique combination of the high-end recordings, the analogue mix by Phill, the excellent mastering by Bob Ludwig and the beautiful artwork by James Marsh (known for his work for Jamiroquai and Talk Talk) stirs up the feeling that an era that has been long gone is coming back to life.

Call it minimal, cinematic or simply modern. For sure this is definitely part of Minco’s most minimal work as of yet and Theodoor’s first recording to be released ever! Their debut was released in 2018 and has been giving excellent reviews all over the world.

UNIFONY and FabFilter

"We came across FabFilter through a befriended engineer who knows what he's talking about. So far we have mostly used the Pro-Q 3, which is a killer plugin that is known for it’s extreme flexibility and musicality. It has features that have never existed in hardware (emulations) or plugins before."

"The use of dynamic EQ'ing has never been so easy and intuitive, which gives way to less EQ'ing and more precise working! We simply can't wait to explore the rest of this fabulous world of high end plug-ins from the Netherlands."
