Ian Dowling
Ian Dowling is a Grammy Award winning engineer and mixer. Notable previous clients include Adele, One Direction, Catfish and The Bottlemen, Birdy, KT Tunstall and Bombay Bicycle Club. Ian started his career at Strongroom in London before striking out on his own. Since then he has worked with a diverse range of artists, from pop through to indie and electronica, plus some film music along the way.
"I just think there is so much good music out there, why would I limit myself by saying I'm only going to work in this or that genre? The variety keeps things creative and fresh, and every project you do feeds into whatever you do in the future."
After eulogising analogue mixing for many years Ian recently made the switch to fully digital.
"In the past it was all about mixing on large consoles for me, but within the last year I've made the switch to working fully inside the box. By keeping everything in the digital domain you can do things that just wouldn't be possible otherwise. For me that's where the future lies. Why keep looking back when you can push things forward?"

"I'm always on the lookout for plug-ins that have something a bit different about them, something that I haven't heard before. When I first heard FabFilter Timeless 2 I knew that it was something I would be using a lot on my mixes. The range of effects this thing can create is incredible! I've been using it for a year and I still feel like I've barely scratched the surface. When I'm mixing, plug-ins like Timeless push me in different directions creatively, which is the highest compliment I can give any studio tool."
