Matt Schaeffer
Matt Schaeffer was born and raised in LA. During high school he started interning in a studio after recording a demo there with his band. He went to Berklee College of Music where he did a dual major in film scoring/music production and engineering. He moved back to LA in 2012 and started working his way up through the studio system at Interscope Records. He cut his teeth working as mixing assistant for MixedByAli doing hybrid analog/digital mixes and engineering sessions for various Interscope and Universal Music Group‘s artists. Currently Matt is working full-time with Kendrick Lamar. When he has some extra time he also mixes for artists like Bakar.

"I learned about fabfilter by word of mouth from other engineers. Favorite plugins are Pro-Q 3, Pro-L 2, Pro-G, and Pro-DS. I like how transparent and utilitarian Pro-DS and Pro-G are. You can really fine tune the parameters on Pro-G to minimize artifacts to a degree of accuracy higher than you can on most other gates."
"Pro-Q 3 is such a versatile EQ, you can use only that EQ on every track in a mix. You can use it for incredibly narrow cuts or broad strokes. You can use the matching EQ to repair audio that was completely unusable and now with the dynamic bands you can even de-ess or do multi-band compression to tame resonances that jump out. You can use it for mastering, do mid-side processing, tilt shift, and probably lots more that I haven’t even figured out yet. The visual feedback is also great."
