Need help understanding % values of Auto-Release on Pro-C
Hello, hope everyone's doing well.
I've been playing around with Pro-C because I plan to use it for my vocal chain for dialoguer/commentary purposes on YouTube. There is one particular setting that I can't fully understand which is Auto-Release, and more specifically, what the % values on the knob actually do.
I've read about how Auto-Release works under the hood at a general, conceptual level, but most compressors that offer this feature seem to only let you toggle the feature on and off, whereas FabFilter's, once activated, has a % value on the knob and I don't know what it does exactly. I've looked at the manual and other forum posts but I still can't get a very clear answer.
I feel like the easiest way to understand it would be if someone could tell me what happens at 0% and 100% values, is it a skew/preference towards slower or faster release?
Any feedback or information would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Auto-release uses a program dependent algorithm, that can vary depending on the signal that is feeding it. Just like the attack and release times in Pro-MB and dynamic modes of Pro-Q 4, this is shown in percentages as we can't really give it a specific time value.
All of our program dependant timing algorithms are basically designed with specific settings that we feel work most of the time. Then we map this specific setting to the 50% value, which will give you the opportunity to either increase or decrease this automatic behavior, or it other words make it faster or slower.
Hope that clears it up.
