Feature Request: Adjust scroll wheel behavior in Windows
Across multiple FabFilter plugins, I've noticed that values are skipped when attempting to change a parameter with discrete values via the scroll wheel. An example is the filter style in Volcano. If it's set to Classic, then scrolling one "notch" down on my mouse jumps to Hard (skipping over Smooth and Raw). Another example is the slope in Volcano, where it jumps from 6 dB to 48 dB with a single notch of the mouse.
I've figured out that this is related to a certain setting in Windows. In Mouse settings, there's an option "Lines to scroll at a time". I have this set to 8 for comfort when scrolling documents and other tasks (the maximum is 100).
I figured out this setting needs to be set to exactly 3 for each "notch" when scrolling to increment 1 value. It's not quite exact as acceleration also is taken into account, but it works when scrolling slowly. Of course, this isn't ideal because it means my mouse is now configured too slowly to scroll documents comfortably.
All that to say, I'd like to request a couple improvements:
- Decouple scroll wheel behavior from "Lines to scroll at a time" in Windows. I'm not sure exactly how it's done, but lots of plugins from other developers reliably increment by 1 for each notch of the scroll wheel regardless of the Windows setting.
- Don't take acceleration into account when changing a non-continuous control (like a drop down with 5 items in it). IMO the acceleration only seems useful when adjusting continuous controls like knobs where there's a notion of coarse and fine tuning.
Perhaps not the biggest issue, but I thought I might as well ask :)
Hi Ph,
I'll ask the devs to look into this. We'll get back to you.
