Extend the Copy & Paste Settings Feature to All FabFilter Plugins

I think your current implementation of allowing users to copy and paste the settings from instances of Pro-Q 3 over to Pro-Q 4 is excellent.

Very simple and efficiently integrated into those plugins. This has saved me a lot of time when manually migrating my projects, from instances of not only Pro-Q v3 to v4, but also from instances of VST/VST3 to CLAP for this plugin.

No more, having to first save each current preset, then reload that preset back into the newer version/format of said plugin (my previous workaround). Now I simply, copy the settings, then substitute the plugin and paste, bang! So quick and simple.

Such a time-saver, especially when you use so many instances of FabFilter plugins in each project, like I do! :)

Which made me wonder, if it would be possible for FabFilter to consider extending such functionality beyond just Pro-Q, also to the rest of your product range?

Bearing in mind, it would greatly assist users not only in our manual migrations between major version updates of each of your products, but also help us with our manual migrations of plugin setting from one plugin format to another (e.g. from VST3 to CLAP).

Killing two birds* with one stone, as it were.
(*no harm was caused to any avians in the making of this feature request.)

This would also greatly aid users of non-Steinberg-branded DAWs, which can unfortunately often struggle with (or don't have the ability for) automatic migration between such plugin formats (i.e. VST to VST3).

This would be amazing if you could even add such a feature retroactively to your product line (perhaps even including as one final update to the depreciated / discontinued versions of your plugins?) Imagine being able to so swiftly manually migrate the plugin settings between any older version of FabFilter plugins to their latest current release versions? :o

To quote your following press release release, wherein you introduced such functionality between v3 and v4 of Pro-Q 4.

" To make it easier to migrate sessions from Pro-Q 3 to Pro-Q 4, we have released a new Pro-Q 3.27 version. You can now right-click the presets button in Pro-Q 3 to copy the current settings to the clipboard. You can then paste this into any Pro-Q 4 instance using the Paste button in the preset browser. "

I really hope you will consider this request. I genuinely believe it would add much compatibility and value to your entire excellent product line.

Thank you.

Edward

Hi Edward,

Without going into too much details, we have updated the way our presets are saved starting with Pro-R 2. Just like Pro-R 2, Pro-Q 4 now stores its presets as text, with readable information per parameter. This basically allows us to copy settings or parameters as text and to paste them into another instance.

While Pro-Q 3 did not include that feature yet, we have made a new version when we released Pro-Q 3 that allows the copy functionality to work without breaking its existing preset system, so it makes copying settings to Pro-Q 4 easier. With Pro-Q being such a widely used plug-in, this made replacing instances much easier as you experienced.

We're not sure yet if this can be incorporated with the other plug-ins that we'll release and their older versions , but we'll definitely check this out.

Please note that all of our legacy plug-ins will remain supported, and can be co-installed alongside their newer versions. So it's not really necessary to replace all your current instances with the latest versions.
