Graphic Acceleration issues

Hi,

After months of trial and error, I was finally able to figure out what was causing my FL Studio to freeze and severely lag: namely, the FabFilter plugins' Graphic Acceleration.

It started around November last year. Through my trial and error, I discovered that if I exported a project or project channel in FL Studio to a WAV file, everything worked just fine afterwards — no high CPU usage, freezing, or lag anymore. I don’t know why that happened, but it did.

I was able to work on my projects that way, but it was still annoying and time-consuming to work through FL Studio while it was lagging and freezing just to export to a WAV file.

I hoped that some upcoming hardware upgrades would fix the issue. I upgraded my 7-year-old Nvidia card to an RTX 4070, my motherboard to an MSI Z790 Edge Ti Max, and my RAM to G.SKILL 2x48 GB DDR5 5600 MHz, but continued using my i9-13900K CPU.

Still, everything remained the same. Reading some posts here, I see that this has been going on for some time. Everything was working just fine until one day — probably after some driver update — it didn’t.

Why has FabFilter not fixed this yet?! I’m now using my FabFilter plugins with Hardware Acceleration turned off, but it would be very nice if I didn’t have to do that.

Hi Solvi,

Like you said this probably had to do with an update for your graphics driver. Did you try running the Studio driver instead of the Game driver? Studio drivers are better at handling multiple smaller GUI's like in a DAW. I see they released a new studio driver June 17th.

Unfortunately when something stops working after a driver update it's more likely something they changed in the driver than something in our plug-ins.
