Side chaining currently broken on Logic Pro ipad after their 2.2 update

Hello, this week's reason we love/hate Apple, the Logic Pro 2.2 update seems to have broken all side chain related functionality for AUv3s (and midi controlled effects and multi out).
For me probably like many people, it's the taking away of my ability to use FabFilter plugs with side chaining that most hurts. All mixing duties and ongoing projects now hit a brick wall.

Hopefully Fabfilter have seen this, and an update is coming

(Damnit Apple)

It's beyond frustrating but more so that hardly anyone seems to be acknowledging the issue aside from a few posts on FB and the loopy forums.

All the YouTube channels that cover Logic seems to be avoiding the issue.

I had 3 projects in progress that, after the update, the mix is completely broken and it's taken an age to redo as much as possible with the stock plugins.

I also wonder if apple have added or changed requirements for plugin writers to advertise side chain or whether the logic team dropped the ball on this one.

Hiya Tim, Yeah I'm in same boat as you. I've been so happily surprised to be able to do pro work on ipad. And then this.
And yeah it's a bit weird there's no word on this on any big channels, yet side chaining is such a commonplace in contemporary production and mixing. Everybody seemingly rushed out their videos and articles without actually checking? Imagine if Dan Worrall was doing Logic Pro iPad videos, his response would be scathing.

I heard back from Bleass that I think if I'm reading it right, suggests it is Logic making changes, as in, not a Logic "bug", but a Logic change, such that we need plugin updates rather than a Logic update. But I could be wrong, it was only a brief reply. But if so the fact that Apple don't warn anyone, beta test with anyone, announce loudly to a community of plugin makers such API changes, is truly horrible for everyone.

I was just thinking either way FabFilter would be in a better position than most to respond, as far as finding out from Apple WTF have they done to Logic this time :)

Hey!

I just sent a message to Baby Audio to see if they can offer some insight (as this pretty much makes Humanoid unusable) and then saw a post on the iOS Facebook group from GS DSP.

They seem to suggest it's an Apple problem, urging people to submit feedback to apple as they are getting a lot of support requests.

Hopefully this problem is gaining some traction now🤞

Ah ok,

So, if this is a Logic Pro bug, not an update to their API, then it could be similar to this one from the desktop identified over at
"logicprohelp.com/forums/topic/143607-side-chain-option-gone/" (in quotes so this isn't marked as spam)

However, I have tried a delete and reinstall of Logic, which supposedly deleted the data, at least as far as Apple warning, but it made no difference. I then tried a delete of FabFilter Plugs and reinstall. Again no change. I wouldn't be surprised if under the hood it was something similar but without a jailbreak way of deleting whatever is equivalent to that desktop plist file, there's no way to know for sure. Unless anyone we know wants to try a complete ipad Reset. I'm definitely not doing that personally :)

The wait and watch goes on...

hi guys,

We've gotten a few reports about this. It does seem that Logic has removed the side-chain function in the latest version. I'm afraid that we as plug-in developers can't do a whole lot about that though..

Ralph (FabFilter)

Ok thanks Ralph,
Fingers crossed they are treating it as a bug and not planning to continue to restrict fundamental functionality. If they are they should probably rename it Logic not-pro.
Probably time to try Cubasis then.

We just heard from the Logic devs that they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

Ralph (FabFilter)

Thanks so much Ralph. Very much appreciated for letting us know.

Thank god, side-chaining in Logic Pro 4ipad is back with today's update and thus all our important uses of FabFilter!

Yes, we just got an email from the Apple devs that they released Logic 2.2.1 today which fixes the issue.
