Warning: eBay seller selling pirated FabFilter plugins

Hello FabFilter community,

I want to warn you about a seller on eBay called CUB-CLUB (www.ebay.com/str/cublub), who is offering pirated versions of FabFilter plugins as well as other well-known plugins like Serum, iZotope RX, Omnisphere, Toontrack Superior Drummer, Soundtoys 5, Slate Digital ANA 2, and more.

The prices are suspiciously low (around $14–$39), which is far below the official prices, and the listings don’t include any valid licensing or activation information. This strongly suggests that these are illegal copies.

This seller has a high rating and thousands of sales, but this does not guarantee legitimacy. Please be cautious and avoid buying software from this source.

I have already reported this seller to FabFilter, iZotope, Xfer Records, and others, and I recommend that anyone who has encountered this or similar sellers report them as well.

I just clicked on your link and Ebay says the store was not found so I guess your campaign worked. I hate s/w pirates.

His shop is still available (the link above accidentally includes the end parentheses and comma), although his illegal software listings appear to have since been taken down.

Here are his two accounts:

www.ebay.com/usr/cub-club2

If you ever see illegal software on eBay that is clearly repackaged DRM-bypassing versions from warez sites (70-99% reduced price, electronically delivered download, Windows-Mac only, faking ground shipment for a download-only product, no mention of licensing, etc), make sure to report the listing as "Copyright Infringement — Counterfeit". You can also include other item numbers to report in bulk.

They take copyright infringement just seriously enough to take down individual items. Each takedown is one illicit income source less for the pirate, and if everyone contributes with a report here and there, would help to put pressure in the proper place.

They thrive under the guise of legitimacy and the reach that eBay provides, plus the idea that "no one cares enough to report" and it being less severe than direct scams to customers (these illegal versions usually work for customers seeking a cheap crack under the guise of legitimacy and they tend to leave positive reviews). It's theft of a third party, so eBay doesn't seem to care as much. Hopefully copyright owners will take action and help to petition for stricter enforcement, even at the government level.
