Transferring my own personal ProQ3 presets to ProQ4
I have 54 of my own presets that I have created in ProQ3 (under: save as). I also have others that are located in the Presets Menu of ProQ3
How do I transfer them to ProQ4? - because I have tried to drag-and drop them - and... they are 'showing up' in ProQ4 - but they are not showing up on the GUI of ProQ4!
For example, I go to the top Left hand corner of ProQ4 - click the "disclosure arrow" to reveal my presets (which are ALL there BTW) click on one of the 54 presets I have saved - and nothing appears on the GUI of ProQ4.
Is ProQ4 backward compatible with ProQ3

Transferring my own personal ProQ3 presets to ProQ4 Edit//: Continued: Forgot to say that I am on the trial version of ProQ4!
** I also have others that are located in the Presets Menu of ProQ3 **
These are okay and have transferred (and can be found), over in the V3 Presets folder - that is located within ProQ4... thats good! :)
However, the presets, I am concerned about are located in the User Folder on the ProQ3 - and even though I have done drag-and-drop (from ProQ3 > ProQ4 - and the names are visible in ProQ4) - they will not appear in the ProQ4 GUI - How do I this FF?
You can only use Pro-Q 3 presets in Pro-Q 4 if you are using the plug-ins internal preset browser. In that case you will see them in a V3 folder in the preset list of Pro-Q 4, which will have all your Pro-Q 3 presets.
If you are using the preset browser of your host you will not be able to load Pro-Q 3 presets in Pro-Q 4, as the browser simply sees them as individual plug-ins. In that case you'll have to manually load a preset in Pro-Q 3, save it in preset browser of Pro-Q 3 and then load the preset in Pro-Q 4 from the v3 folder.
Hope that clears it up. If you have any more questions, just let us know!
How would I convert them all to a .ffp file / Document, because these 54 user presets are .aupresets / Plain Text?
Is it an easy process - maybe I'm missing something here?
Thanks
F
You can do so by loading Pro-Q 3, recalling the preset from the Logic preset browser, and resaving them with the plug-ins' internal preset manager.
So... Basically the 54 presets that I created and use almost on a daily basis and are located in USER / .aupresets - cannot be recognised in Pro-Q4.
You state:
"If you are using the preset browser of your host you will not be able to load Pro-Q 3 presets in Pro-Q 4, as the browser simply sees them as individual plug-ins. In that case you'll have to manually load a preset in Pro-Q 3, save it in preset browser of Pro-Q 3 and then load the preset in Pro-Q 4 from the v3 folder."
This will not work - because you are talking about .ffp File / Document - the Presets I AM TALKING ABOUT are .aupresets / Plain Text
In other words: "I'm screwed" - and now I have to manually create '54' presets in Pro-Q4 - until that is Pro-Q5 comes out and THEN I will have to repeat the process again. IS THERE a way to place my PRO-Q3 presets (.aupresets) into Pro-Q4.
I have tried - and IT DOES NOT WORK: I shall repeat again (as mentioned before) for clarity:
" and even though I have done drag-and-drop (from ProQ3 > ProQ4 - and the names are visible in ProQ4) - they will not appear in the ProQ4 GUI - How do I this FF? "
Can you see the problem more clearly now. I am trying to transfer my existing 54 custom .aupreset files from Pro-Q 3 to Pro-Q 4, but Pro-Q 4 isn’t fully loading the settings from those .aupreset files — it’s only showing the names, but not the actual EQ settings or configurations on the GUI.
This is a frustrating issue, especially when I’ve put a lot of work into those presets and expect them to work seamlessly in Pro-Q 4.
Why Is This Happening?
What are the reasons why Pro-Q 4 is not correctly loading my .aupreset files from Pro-Q 3:
Although Pro-Q 4 does allow .aupreset files to be saved through the User Preset Browser, it seems like there is an issue with backward compatibility when it comes to **loading .aupreset files created in Pro-Q 3.
Has Pro-Q 4 made some internal changes to how presets are stored?
Pro-Q 3 and Pro-Q 4 might store preset data in slightly different ways (even if both are .aupreset files).
These internal differences are causing Pro-Q 4 to recognise the preset names, but fail to load the actual parameters or settings into the GUI.
Please answer me - and state your case!
Like I said Pro-Q 4 simply can't load presets in made in Pro-Q 3 if you are using the aupreset format. It can only load presets made in Pro-Q 3 when the presets were saved in our own .ffp format.
The only way to load your .aupreset file in Pro-Q 4 is to load the preset in Pro-Q 3 and save it as a .ffp file. Then it will show up automatically in Pro-Q 4 in the v3 folder.
If we release Pro-Q 5, which we won't for a while, you will not have to do so again because it will also recognize the .ffp preset you just created.

Yeah, and how do you suggest I do that - when I'm on a Mac - for heavens sake!
Do you even know what you're saying...
I am not going to be able to DO that - am I? So, why even mention it! :(
Everything, I save will be in the .aupreset format - won't it?
Pro-Q 3 does not have a built-in feature to export presets directly as .ffp files - when I am on a Mac!
Without being able to save .aupreset files directly as .ffp within Pro-Q 3, the usual workaround of converting via Pro-Q3 > Pro-Q4 doesn't apply here!!!!!!
Pro-Q 3 does have that feature. Load the .aupreset via the host. Then, in Pro-Q 3, go to the presets menu in the plugin interface itself, and click Save As there.
Cheers,

Please explain what you mean!
Because I think we are talking about two different things here altogether...
I'm not sure you UNDERSTAND what I REQUIRE - or what I'm even asking for?
Are you trying to "wind me up" - because if you are, you are succeeding...
Can somebody out there (or at FabFilter), explain what is REQUIRED here -- because, I don't think he quite knows what he is saying - or he does not understand the problem...
Once again: Please explain what you mean and:
* tell me how to save a .aupreset files directly as .ffp within Pro-Q 3 - because the usual workaround of converting via Pro-Q3 > Pro-Q4 doesn't apply here!!!!!!
Got that? Am I making myself "crystal clear" - or are you purposely mocking me?
I have 54 user presets already saved (.aupreset) - and I want to convert them to .ffp - so I can save them to Pro Q-4...
What can't you understand here?
Your answers are very vague - to say the least!
So, you open a Pro-Q 3. At the top of the interface, you see "fabfilter Pro.Q3", then undo/redo, A/B, Copy, <, and then "Default Setting". This is the preset button for our own preset system.
So. You load the aupreset in Pro-Q 3 using Logic's preset button. Then, click our own preset button, click "Save As" in the menu that appears, and save it as a .ffp file.
Next, open Pro-Q 4, go into our own preset browser using the same preset button, go to "V3 Preset Folder", and you'll find the preset you just saved there.
Cheers,
Result!
:) I got there in the end - I shall be buying this immediately - thanks for your patience!
I was getting the "wrong end of the stick" - and was trying to access my presets on Pro-Q4 after having SAVED in USER in Pro-Q3! (of course this method would not work because they are .aupreset - duhhhh)
Now, I can access them in Pro-Q4 - after FOLLOWING your clear-cut instructions. ;)
Sometimes, I wonder about myself - because after looking at the information in THIS post - it was explained how to do THIS almost immediately, however, I had a problem with the terminology being used in this discussion - and therefore, I couldn't see the wood for the trees.
I love you
This is a massive pain in the ass. Please write an update that allows me to simply import my presets from wherever they live to wherever I want. Why can't FF do a conversion and resave with a different file extension? I have loved FF products for years...until this. Why make me, one by one, resave work I have already done? Fix this please.
I have followed the instructions above and this does not work. I opened a Q3 preset in the Q3 internal plugin browser. I saved it to the as a .ffp to the ProQ3 presets Library on my local machine. These "saves" do not show up in the V3 folder in Q4. Nor is there a Q4 preset folder on my local machine, usually found at USERS/"USER"/ Library/Audio/Presets/FabFilter ProQ-X
Hi Marc,
We moved the preset folder for the default preset to the documents folder instead of the user library. The folders in the user library were only present when certain hosts was installed, which gave some issues when using other hosts.
The preset folder of Pro-Q 4 lives in Documents/FabFilter/Presets. You can copy your Pro-Q 3 preset folder to that folder as well, and select this folder as your new preset folder for Pro-Q 3 by selecting "Change Preset Folder" from the options menu in the preset list. Once you refresh the preset browser of Pro-Q 4 you should now see the Pro-Q 3 presets.
In most cases the Pro-Q 3 presets are already stored in the documents folder, and you should see the v3 presets in Pro-Q 4 automatically. However, it's possible that when using an older version of Pro-Q 3 that still uses the user library as a preset location that you need these steps.
