features request for Pro Q4
Hi! As huge fan and avid Pro Q3 user I immediately upgraded but some things bother me a bit so I thought I'd try doing a feature request topic
1. Solo hold - the new feature of the dynamic attack/release had me instantly going but I found that sometimes I can't focus on dialing in the values while the whole spectrum is playing, I went through the manual but looks like there's no way to fixate the solo'ed band while adjusting the dynamic/spectral parameters which I usually have on pretty subtle values, being able to solo a band without distractions would really help to fixate on a specific band.
2. mid/side - couple of things, I always wanted a shortcut to make a band switch to mid/side without going into the band controls, another thing that I really wish for is having the analyzer reflect the mid/side/left/right when a band with specific stereo option is in focus, there's a lot of times when I'm trying to judge blindly my side eq decisions while the mid channel is way stronger, I usually would have some other utility before the Pro Q instance so I could set mid/side pre-eq so the analyzer would reflect the correct channel but having the option to set the analyzer on the correct channel on the fly from the band focus/solo would really help, or maybe even having the option to stack m/s/l/r analyzers would be great.
3. input gain - with the added saturation feature I kinda with I'd had the option to have input gain so I could push the signal into the model and see how it reacts instead of using it in "set and forget" mode, I understand that this is not the intention of the plugin but still, I would really like to judge the character by pushing the signal into the saturation internally.
4. I really liked the older bigger level meters, the new smaller ones kind of missing the mark for me, pretty sure this won't be happening but doesn't hurt to ask for legacy meters :)
thank you!
Hi Alex,
Thanks for your feature requests! We definitely understand the solo request and will look into that. 2) You can right-click on a band and choose Stereo Placement > Mid, for example. 3) We really didn't want to do a separate input gain for Pro-Q, so I suggest you just put a Pro-Q before it and use its output gain instead. 4) I don't think we'll change this back... :)
Cheers,
thank you for your response Frederik!
1. thanks! that would be awesome, it wasn't really needed before because in Q3 there was no controls so it didn't matter.
2. for M/S I rarely use the right click function although I'm fully aware of it, I was thinking about some other option like for example same way I can quickly setup dynamic range while hovering on a band dot with Option+Scroll so I could Shift+Scroll (which is currently not doing anything) to scroll through the stereo modes, again, this is something I use a lot so finding it under right click > stereo placement > mode is something that throws me off a bit while something more direct like Shift+Scroll would be way faster for a workflow.
3: yeah I figured that's something I'm going to do
4: well, worth a shot ;)
thank you again!
I forgot to add the adaptive analyzer to the correct channel, i.e. if I have Side band selected it would be really helpful if the analyzer would reflect the Side channel only, having the full stereo sum doesn't really help me figure out where I'm standing on mid/side/left/right if I'm visualizing the whole signal, definitely would help if the analyzer focused the correct channel for current band or full stereo when nothing selected
2) Defo would be nice to select a full m/s instance... I think this could be a smart implementation:
Imagine a single button in the top left that says 'Stereo'. Click it once changes it to 'Mid', click again changes it to 'Sides'.
This could change the default node behaviour, so that (in this case) all plotted nodes going forward are sides. By default, it inherits the 'global' stereo placement that you selected. This choice could also be reflected in the analyser, showing only the side channel.
Sure, you can still create a few bands and change them from defaults sides to mid, but as you can clearly see at a glance that this instance is doing sides
The top left button again... simply hold for 1 second to return to normal, or click a few times over to go back to stereo.
Although it only allows 8 bands on Mid, and 8 bands on Side, I think 'Ozone 11 Equalizer' does a great job of having simple mid and side buttons in the tab above the analyser. Please check it out Fabfilter!
Also, regarding the 'Output Pan wheel', I've been using Pro-Q and Pro-MB for years but still have to concentrate when adjusting the M/S output. I think it's exaggerated by the "Left: -INF dB , Right: 0 dB" labels. This is the one area I wish you added percentages e.g. Left: OFF , Right: 100%", or let us choose this in settings.
I know it has to 'fit' the design language, but I'd love to see the 'Output Pan' wheel replaced a slider, just like the gain scale.
Thanks a lot!
