Pro-MB Range behaviour

Hi everyone! I'm trying to use Pro-MB as an upward compressor and finding the Range knob acts kind of like a ratio.

I would expect the Range to work as a "maximum compression allowed" selector, but the bigger it is, the more the plugin compresses.

The issue is that, if you have a loud signal (like a full mix), and want to do 3dB of compression, you have to set the threshold close to zero and might not hit the desired gain reduction.

Now, I know I could set the Range higher and dial in the threshold to hit that amount but, with upward compression in particular, a quiet section will occur and the signal will be compressed too much.

Is this the expected behaviour for the range knob? It always acted weird when I used it as a downward compressor but wasn't really an issue until now.

Thanks!

Hi Dani,

The range should indeed just be the maximum amount of gain reduction. The actual gain reduction should be triggered by the threshold and the ratio. You can try increasing the ratio and harden the knee instead of decreasing the threshold?
