Fabfilter ONE + Saturn2 Side Chain Sync Problem

Hey guys,

I have a problem with Fabfilter ONE and Saturn2. I have the February Update installed and never noticed something like this.

Once I add Saturn2 with the V1 Preset - Various - Sidechain 01 to the Fabfilter ONE instance I get track position correlated different modulation which I don't know why that is.

Even funnier is that the ONE instance still behaves like that even after the Saturn2 has been removed.

To make it more clear, I recorded it with a clean project:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I did some more testing and it even seems to be Saturn in general, not even just with the side chain preset.

Hi Manuel,

That's a strange issue. What Cubase version and OS version are you using?

Could you see if rolling back to Saturn 2.09 makes a difference?

Ralph (FabFilter)

Hi Ralph,
thanks for the update. Here are the data you requested

OS: Windows 10 22H2
Cubase: 12.0.70 Built on June 16 2023

It seems that the rollback to Saturn 2.09 fixes the issue.

If I can do anything to help you debug the issue, just let me know :)

Sorry, that was too early - it clips too with 2.09.
The cpu (Ryzen 9 5900x 12 core) is not stressed. Enough RAM (100GB) is avalilable.

I also tried reinstalling Cubase and also tested it on my laptop - same issues sadly.

Just to close this - it was discussed by mail and it turned out to be a cubase / steinberg issue.

The plugin loose sync to host sync especially when linear phase / high quality is turned on.

Its a playback issue which does not affect rendered audio.
Once a project has a failed sync state it cannot (to my knowledge) recovered.

It has been forwarded to Steinberg.

Here is the more detailed explanation from Ralph:
First of all, the fact that scrolling through the session will give small hiccups to One is normal. the plug-ins simply needs to receive information from the host about where on the timeline it exactly is, and therefore what timing the plug-in should adjust its syncing to.

I noticed it's not so much the preset or XLFO in Saturn that causes this issue, but the oversampling (HQ mode). When you enable HQ mode or linear phase mode, Saturn 2 will no longer be zero latency. It seems to me that Cubase has an problem keeping the two plug-ins in sync when latency is introduced in Saturn 2. This should not be an issue when rendering or exporting, as the project will just play chronologically from point A to point B, and there is not jumping in time. However, when quickly jumping between points in the timeline, it seems there is an issue with Cubase keeping both plug-ins in sync.
