ProC sidechaining wonky in Sonar
Hi - first off - just bought and am loving these plugs (ProC, Volcano, Timeless), they are simply amazing. But...I'm having a heckofa time getting sidechaining - stereo or mono - to work in SonarPE7.02. It sets up OK (ProC exposes input, I can make a send to or just output my audio track to ProC), but the compressor either way overloads (total noise reduction, but no output), or seems to only read 'half' the siechain...ie., the right, but not left signal comes thru. I have to pan BOTH input gains hard right to hear anything. Also - the automatic make-up gain - which is supposed to deactivate during sidechaining - stays on - but doesn't do anything. I can sidechain with some plugins ((akewalk's own Sonitus, PSP mixpressor, for eg.)
One interesting I've noticed is that ProC (or Volcano & Timeless, for that matter) has only 2 single "notches" on the fx bin, when inserted. All other stereo plug-ins show 2 double notches...maybe this has something to do with the problem.
Anyways - hope you can have a look at this..
Alright - I just figured it out - ProC doesn't play nice with Sonar's "64-bit Double Precision" engine..that's what those single notches indicate on the fx bin, that ProC is "32-bit" compatible only. If you turn off 'Double Precision' under Audio Options, sidechaining works a charm. The Sonar help blurb states that non 64-bit compatible plug-in data streams are are automatically turned into 32 bit....but this don't seem to work.
btw - I'm not talking 64 bit, like, as in Vista 64 - it's that (some say gimmicky) sonar feature where you sorta the oomph of the audio engine.
Anyways....
Hi,
It's definitely a Sonar bug with side-chaining. I have already logged a bug report with them a couple of months ago. I didn't know, however, that setting 64-bit to off fixes it as well. Thanks!
Cheers,
