Hi Robbo,
They are not sent from the Gmail address, these "friends" discounts can only be sent from a Fabfilter account. As each one is unique, the email address is required at this time. So when you request to have one, you can write it in a post or you will be asked to send it to a ........gmail.com address
So yes, they are legit, as lond as someone met on a forum can be considered a friend. Someone correct me if I missed something.
