Hold it for the ups and downs!

Upward/downward, please! ProC2 is absolutely the BEST for my pro voice-recording. Love the excellent transparency of zero overshoot as well as general finesse in dynamics. However...
While Hold is effective as an alternative to slowing the recovery time, I would love that option to be user-extendable: freeze the gain until the next significant sound comes along.
This can help to reduce breaths, or audience/ambient noise, in a less intrusive way than by adding traditional noise gating. Modern DSP will be able to decide what's signal and what is noise, to avoid false triggering.
If the gain became frozen for a very long time following a long outburst, it could be arranged to creep back to a middling level. That means the next sound would cause a less evident gain change, up or down.
The concept was applied to some highly regarded analogue hardware used by broadcasters as far back as the 70s. Bring it on!
