Volcano 2 disappears in mono

I have two guitars panned hard left and right, and both going to the same bus. I have Volcano 2 on the bus. In stereo, it's great, but when I shift the mix to mono, the Volcano 2 effect disappears a lot. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way for me to maintain the presence of the Volcano effect in mono?
