Pro-Q2 spectrum meter question

Lately, I have noticed that different spectrum analyzers give different results. To check this, I generated noise with one oscillator in Sylenth1 and measured with various analyzers. (I have taken a screendump but I don't know if I can attach it here?)

The Studio One spectrum meter ranges from approx. -52 dB at 20 Hz, to approx. -47 dB at 20 kHz, i.e. a difference of 5 dB.

VPS Scope ranges from -40 dB to -30 dB, i.e. a difference of 10 dB.

Fabfilter Pro-Q2 ranges from -12 to +9 dB, i.e. a difference of 21 dB!

Why this difference? Do they measure different things? I would be grateful if anyone can explain this - or if it is complicated point me to a good reference (www-link or book or anything else) for learning.

I ask this question on the Fabfilter forum since this is the analyser that seems to deviate the most...

Sven

I got it - somebody else helped me finding the tilt setting! I guess the purpose of the default 4.5 dB per octave is to use a flat spectrum as a crude reference for something pleasing to the ear?

Sven

That's correct!
