Pro-L Output Volume

Hi,

does anybody know exactly what the 'Out' (bottom right of the Pro-L screen' refers to?

My impression is that this is the 'brickwall' level that any digital peak will not exceed. However I'm getting mixed messages from Pro-L and my DAW (SADiE).

If I set the output to say -0.50dB I would have thought that I should see the ceiling reach no higher than -0.50dB in my DAW too. However, I am getting readings up to say -0.10 dB or higher!

This got me thinking about how exactly the software works.

How does the limiter work at 4x oversampling? Does this brick wall stop intersample peaks at the 'output' level or does it only work at the native resolution?

Also, do I need to have look - ahead and 0 seconds of attack time to achieve absolute brickwall limit on the master?

Or does the look-ahead, attack and decay only have an impact on the sound characteristics of the compression and not impact on the brickwall limiter?

Thanks, Dave
