Looking to buy a workhorse-compressor, should I hold on to my money for Pro-C 2?

I feel that Pro-C are lacking some features offered by other compressors on the market and I am looking to buy new workhorse for my setup. Something tells me that Pro-C 2 (if it ever comes?) will fit that need perfectly. But I can't wait forever. Is it in the pipelines? Obviously you don't have to announce anything here and now but... would you advice me to hold on to my money a bit longer? (hint hint)

Hi Niklas,

We never announce any releases in advance, but you can of course take a look at www.fabfilter.com/news to get an idea how often we do major releases... ;-)

Klanghelm has a great compressor for less than the price of a family pizza.

Pro-C is great, the only really important thing in daily use that is missing at this point is the look-ahead in my opinion.

Yes, lookahead would be a fantastic feature for a Pro-C2 update.

Hi i think Fab Filter do great products very versatile. Unique, Good quality, clean or if anybody wants
Dist/Sat Saturn do
a pretty good job. But about Pro-C i feel something is left.
The features are prefect. GUI is nice.
But sound IMO is allways softenig. When i try to really smack/punch etc...one Sound, i cant get it with pro c, try different settings, envelopes, ratios, atack, treshold, sidechain etc..... But cant get it, then try another comp plugin and do the trick but without the pro c features that i like/want.
I know (think) that pro c was create for mastering and do great job but if it can be use more roughly. Agressively. It will be really really powerfull and my go to unique compressor. I'll clean my vst list. And save disk space and CPU.
So i hope pro c 2 is comming soon. With improvements that FF Staff think necesary.

Lookahead…lookahead…lookahead. As it stands, Pro-C is a very superior compressor, and it would approach perfection with lookahead.
My work is narration, often calling for very clean unclicky comping. Two millisec of anticipation is all that needs, though a longer option would add value for other guys.

Following up my own post here! Big cheers for the debut of Pro-C2, which does have lookahead, adjustable, as well as other nice things like inbuilt sidechain EQ and a 'Hold' as a clean alternative to simply slowing the recovery time.

Perfection is very near. All that remains, imho, is to finesse the derivation of the control signal: somehow strike a balance between rms and peak, so that varied tones of voice (soft/harsh) come out more accurately represented in terms of apparent volume.
We all know how differently they register on a VU compared with a PPM. Sometimes as much as 10dB.

My getaround is to use that sidechain EQ to get stronger action on lower tones. Picky maybe, but solo voice is so very revealing!

Reckon this should be a topic elsewhere
