Any FF users also using Wavelab 8.5 and UAD?

I am experiencing a weird bug/crash that occurs when using a combination of Fab-Filter and UAD plugins on a Wavelab montage.

The crash causes Wavelab to quit unexpectedly after or during a render of files or DDP.

I am using OSX 10.9.2

Hi all,

We are looking into this issue with the help of Justin, but haven't been able to reproduce it ourselves; if there is anyone else experiencing problems as described above, let us know!

Floris (FabFilter)

I will be able to do more testing today but it's very hard to find the exact cause but I know that FF and UAD don't seem to play well together in Wavelab.

At this point, it seems that Pro-Q 2 on audio clips is when I can produce the crash most, but of course it's only when UAD BAX EQ is on the montage master. Pro-L is also after the UAD BAX EQ but doesn't seem to make a difference with the crash.

Wavelab for Mac is very touchy when it comes to 3rd party plugins.

I am still testing but I can say that the crashes seem to only occur when Pro-Q 2 is inserted on an audio clip, and a UAD plugin is present on the montage master.

I can produce the crash without Pro-L.

I can't produce the crash with only UAD or only FF but I will continue testing.

I just had a montage that crashed 5 times in a row while rending a DDP. Removing the one any only Pro-Q 2 on one of the audio clips fixed the crash problem.

After doing over 300 render tests, I'm really thinking that having a FabFilter plugin on an audio clip in Wavelab, followed by UAD and others on the montage master is causing the crash.

PG from Wavelab keeps referencing a memory corruption error likely caused by FF plugins.

Hi Justin,

We've been trying to reproduce this issue here, but without any luck. The fact that you are the only one that experiences these crashes, plus the crash reports do not show any crash in our processes, makes it nearly impossible for us to investigate this here. Also, we don't have UAD plug-ins to test with either... :-/

Does removing the UAD plug-ins solve the crash? Does the order (first Pro-Q 2, then UAD) affect the behavior? Does this only happen when rendering or also on normal playback?

Thanks!

Hi Floris,

The crash only occurs when rendering.

Next time I have a chance, I'll try some variations of the plugin order but it seems that it's only FF and UAD together, with FF on the clip level and UAD on the montage master section, followed by FF Pro-L although the crash can occur without the Pro-L following UAD.

Justin Perkins

This morning I am trying to render WAV files from a montage and the crash keeps happening after writing track 5 which only has a FF Pro-Q 2 on the audio clip.

Wavelab is becoming un-usable with FF plugins, specially when inserted on an audio clip.

I don't know why it's only when followed by UAD on the montage master but all signs point to FF being the cause.

Justin Perkins

The weird thing is that I can render files all day with no crash when FF is inserted with UAD all on a montage master only, but having FF on an audio clip and UAD on a montage master causes the crash quite easily.

Hi,

i get a similar issue, FF Multiband crashes when loaded into Wavelab 8.5 montage . I can load the plugin but when i hit play it crashes Wavelab every time., if i remove FF MB the project works fine.
Im running MAC 10.9.4 Wavelab 8.5.20

I have only FF-MB in the montage (crashes) remove the plugin, the tracks plays fine. Not so fab in my case, unusable i'm afraid.

Hi Chris,

What other plugins are you using in this montage? Are you using the latest version of Pro-MB? (1.10) 32-bit or 64-bit version?

Can you send us a crash report (use the Contact link at the bottom of this page)?

Cheers,

Frederik (FabFilter)

I also still have some problems with FF plugins in Wavelab 8.5 on OSX 10.9.5 64-bit

I never get a crash just from adding a FF plugin, but I still get some bad sounding audio when I insert a FF plugin while the transport is playing and then load a pre-set. Once I stop and restart the transport the audio is fine.

More importantly, I still regularly get a crash when rendering files from a montage when I have FF inserted on an audio clip, and UAD inserted on the montage master specifically.

I can't get Wavelab to take the blame for the crash, and UAD doesn't support Wavelab so they're no help. Without FF the crash doesn't occur, but also without FF the crash doesn't seem to occur. It's strange.

PG, the Wavelab developer thinks the problem is a memory issue within FF plugins.

I would love to see better stability with FF plugins in Wavelab, and I would be happy to help test beta versions if needed. I am a Wavelab beta tester as well. The latest public release of 8.5.20 is the most up to date version as of now.

I've a lot of crashes using PRO-Q2 on Wavelab 9 OSX..

I'm using UAD plugs at the same time.
Even if I take PRO-Q2 plug from the chain, it crashes.
