How to choose between AU and VST on MacOSX

Hi there,

This might not be the right place, but I was wondering if someone could explain the difference we should be aware between using AU or VST plugin format on MacOSX.
I am running MacOSX 10.7 with Reaper (32bits).

While I tend to prefer AU as I understood this was "Audio Unit" for Apple platform, I noticed some plugs in VST format could run better (presets and meters were not properly working through the similar plug in AU format).
I have no such issue with FabFilter but I would like to make sure to use the best format (especially as my channel strip always include FabFilter: Pro-G, Pro-Q, Pro-Q, not matter the order).

Is there any general guideline about that plugs format?
Is there anything special between FabFilter AU and VST (like plugs have been initially developed for VST and then a port has been done for AU or should AU be considered as a purely build from the ground version).

Once again, thanks a lot FabFilter for your amazing work.

Best regards,

We don't have a "priority" plug-in format, all formats should work equally well. Personally I'd use VST with Reaper on Mac because it will let you also open your sessions on Windows if you ever need to do this.

Cheers,

Thank you for the clarification.

Love so much your FabFilter :)
