What does DS add to Pro-C, G in combi with Q and L?
Cause in my experience, when you program those correct in the right order, you can do even more.. As soon as Worall started about the ``can act like a multiband compressor`` part, alarm bells started ringing! Please don't release plugins like these or a multiband compressor.. Everybody knows that those are just shiney things which are overrated and can be created easily with allready existing plugins.. Why would I invest in DS if I can get similar results with previous FF mixing plugins?
This is the first FF plugin I will not be getting my hands on, cause I simply don't need it. It doesn't add anything that can be done with the previous mixing series..
I would love to see polishing of previous plugins like a functional text entry mode in Cubase like it is allready present in Saturn!
Also a multichannel sampler or reverb would be cool, but this DS isn't really adding anything new despite it's ``special'' algorythms. This is just a combination of previous mixing plugins in a different order and new jacket..
Cheers, and good luck developing fresh and usefull plugins!
Hi Jovas,
Thanks for your comments. You can indeed create a reasonably working de-esser by combining other plug-ins, like compressors, gates, limiters etc.
However, to get good results quickly, which I think is essential for a good workflow while mixing or mastering, stacking various plug-ins and tweaking them all isn't optimal. Our idea is: want to de-ess a vocal track? Insert FabFilter Pro-DS, set the Range and you're done... with much better results than using different plug-ins.
Especially because de-essing is such a specific case, it allows us to design specifically tailored algorithms, fine-tuned to perfection for this specific task. As a result, Pro-DS is really not a combination of existing parts of previous mixing plug-ins, but makes use of clever new algorithms and a different flavour of compression/limiting to get the most transparent results for the specific purpose it has been designed for.
... oh and by the way: of course we'll keep updating all our plug-ins to include all fixes and improvements already present in Saturn and Pro-DS now. :-)
