Timeless and Volcano Sidechain versions question

I recently acquired these plugins and I'm loving them. However, I do have one question.

There are "regular" versions of the plugins and "sidechain" versions of the plugins.

As far as I can tell, the sidechain version is exactly the same as the normal version but it has the option of sidechaining.

Why not just use the sidechain version all the time and just use the sidechain feature when you want to use it?

I'm basically wondering why there are two versions of the plugin. What are the advantages of using the non-sidechain enabled versions?

I am familiar with sidechain plugins, and usually the sidechain is built in and optionally useable, so I am wondering why your plugins come in 2 versions, including a special sidechain one...

Thank you very much!

Hi Pheeleep,

... the reason for having versions with and without side-chain is simpler than you might expect: some hosts are not able to open a VST plug-in that reports more than 2 inputs (strange/stupid but true). And since we want everyone to be able to open our plug-ins in any host, we've added the version without side-chain as well :-)

But in your case: you can just always use the side-chain version.

Cheers,

Ah, well that makes sense :) Thank you!
