Loudness detection

Hello,

I really enjoy Fabfilter line up of plugins. Today I am thinking about the circuit detection of compression plugins.

It would be great if Fabfilter think about dynamic control based on loudness detection. I mean, analyzing the perceived level of the signal rather than just peak or traditional RMS levels as we see on the MDWDRC2. Plugin Alliance’s take on that gave us the AMEK Mastering Compressor. I’d love to see such a feature implemented in future products.

Hi Pierre,

I think this is a feature we'll keep reserved for Pro-L 2 as that has far more extensive Loudness metering by design. What type of loudness metering would we be looking at here? There's different ways to measure loudness.

Maarten (FabFilter)

Hi Marteen,

Thanks for the heads up. Sorry I wasn't clear using the term loudness. I mean, adding to Pro-C or Pro-MB the peak + RMS combined detections you'll find in the MDWDRC2, Plugin Alliance AMEK Mastering Compressor or Tone Projects Unisum (but cooked in their own way).

It gives an extended control over the signal you'd otherwise get using two devices like LA2A + 1176. It allows for mastering the dynamics in a very transparent way even with high compression ratios. The Massenburg plugin shines into this area, but the UX is not there.

I love Fabfilter's touch and I think that such a feature would be fantastic into your hands and skills.
