Site license with multiple accounts?

Dear Support Team,
We are currently utilizing a site license with multiple seats at our university, where students access shared devices by logging in with individual accounts managed via Active Directory.
However, we’ve encountered an issue: licenses applied to a device do not carry over when another user logs into that same device. Could you please advise on how to configure the system so that the license is recognized across all user profiles on a given machine?
Thank you in advance for your guidance.
Kind regards

Hi Lindsay,

By default the licenses are indeed authorized for the current user only. However, it's possible to move the licenses to a global location so all users are authorized. Are you on Mac or PC?

Hi Ralph,

thanks for your message and sorry for the late reply. These are Mac based systems.
Currently with local accounts but soon to be moved to Active Directory managed.

Looking forward to your reply
thanks

By default the plug-ins are only authorized for the user that installed them. It is possible to authorize all users by copying the file in which the license is stored from the user library to the main library.

By default the license file is stored here:

User/Library/Preferences/com.fabfilter.pluginname.plist

You can copy all files starting with com.fabfilter to the following location:

MacintoshHD/Library/Preferences

Please note that the user library may be hidden. To access it, go to the "Go" menu in finder and press the Alt button. This should make the user library show up.

For macOS versions up to and including Big Sur, this should do the trick. If you are on Monterey or Ventura, the right permissions need to be set for the copied files.

After moving the preference files with licenses to the system /Library/Preferences, you have to make sure other user on the computer will have read access. To set read permissions for all FabFilter preference files, type this in Terminal after you've moved the preference files (beging logged in as admin):

chmod 755 /Library/Preferences/com.fabfilter.*.plist

Now all users should be authorized and have access to our plug-ins.

Thanks Ralph,

that was pretty straightforward and easy to do!
Thanks for your help!
