Pro - Q4 feature suggestion for Instance list
At this moment it is not possible to solo or mute tracks from the instance list in Pro-Q 4. We tried long and hard to implement these features, but it's simply impossible to do. Instead we have added the emphasize button at the output section in the instance list. This will temporarily increase the volume of a track by 6dB so you can identify the track more easily.
There are multiple reasons we could not properly include solo or mute functions in Pro-Q 4.
First of all you would need to have Pro-Q 4 on every track in your session to have a proper solo functionality. We're aware that Pro-Q finds its way to lots of tracks, but we don't want to offer a function that only works when you have the plug-in on every single track in your session.
Besides that a solo function works differently on different types of tracks. Subgroups, masters and FX returns are usually solo-safe, so they will not be muted when another track is solo'd. The plug-in simply does not know what soft of track it's on, so it can't make a difference between these types of tracks.
Another issue are tracks with multiple instances of Pro-Q 4. We often see that people are using multiple instances on a single track. What would happen if you would solo one of these instances? Would the other instances be bypassed, or should you just hear the track with all the instances enabled?
These are just a few of the reasons we did not include solo or mute functionality in Pro-Q 4. We would have loved to incorporate it, but we simply could not make it work for this release. It really is a host functionality.
However, things keep moving. Plug-in formats get updated and hosts add new features. If it would become possible to include solo and mute in the future we'll definitely take a look.
Thx for detailed explanation Ralph .
would that be the same reason why it would not be possible to implement activate/deactivate all instances of ProQ - 4 with one button ?
it is very useful if you have instance of ProQ on every track and by deactivating/reactivating with click you to hear what you've done with the mix . especially if it is subtle changes .
as workaround in Ableton Live key can be mapped to all instaces to deactivate/deactivate but it is a lot of work to map key to all , possibly lots of instances . that's where natively implemented global to all instance deactivating/reactivating button would be very handy.
The current Instance order in Logic Pro is alphabetical. This strikes me as only slightly better than putting the instances in a random order. :-)
It may not be possible because of API limitations, but putting them in track order would suit me considerably better.
Also, if I save a project with a set pinned it reopens with the same set selected which is great, but with the Filter Pinned button dimmed, so that the set can't be de-selected. Selecting the saved set re-enables the Filter Pinned button, so I can de-select it.
I would also very much appreciate a "bypass all instances" button! I immediately searched for it when I started testing the device and was slightly disappointed when I didn't find it. If bypassing each instance individually is possible from the instance list view, it should be trivial to add a "bypass all" function, right?
Maybe it could work by Shift+Clicking or Command+Clicking a bypass button on any one of the instances in the list? That was my first reaction to try. And that would also mean no changes to the interface! :)
While developing the instance list, we thought of many possible future additions and "bypass all" is certainly one of them -- but we needed to restrain ourselves or otherwise the release would have been in 2026. :)
We'll add it to the list for future updates!
Regarding track order, we'd really like to have that in Logic but currently AU simply doesn't contain this feature. We're in contact with Apple about it.
Cheers,
I just had Idea about how soloing instanse could be achieved as Ralph mentioned that it would be hard to implement as a solo button for the reasons he explained in one of the the other threads but he said in this post that implementing disabling/enabling all instances at once with one button is possible . then soloing instance could be achived by placing disable/enable all instances button next to disable/enable button of only one instance as it is currently implemented.
then you could disable all instances and click enable only instance you want to hear next to it . so these buttons essentially would be nex to each other .
would that be solution ?
soloing instanse is desired feature by mant users.
Hey, first of all congrats on the great release!
The new Character setting is awesome. The manual suggests adding ProQ with a default character setting on all tracks and then mixing into it as a possible workflow (kind of similar to HEAT in Pro Tools?). For this it would be really useful imo to have a global character setting/bypass so that I can A/B the sound of all instances with/without added character while keeping the EQ settings the same.
Happy Holidays :)
Amazing update . lots of new posibilities opened up with version 4.
i'd like to make couple of suggestions .
1. ability do disable enable all instances from the instance list with one button would be great addition .
2. and solo mute each instance would be great too.
