Pro Q4 proposal

Hello,

just played with Q4 update. Amazing job, I love everything, especially the instances tab and drawing your own curve. Works wonders.

Anyway, I have two proposals:
1) do you plan on adding oversampling for saturation? it adds some aliasing and since the harmonics are influenced by the gain change of the bands, it can get a bit dirty with freqs above 5khz, especially if you use multiple bands. This happens with subtle and warm mod as well. It can be from 2x up to 16x. But, cherry on the cake would be offline and online settings. Offline max oversampling on render and online 1 or 2x or 4x or 8x (user selectable).

2) transient and sustain ala SplitEq - this is not something we use often, but it can really come in handy when needed.

Thx

We do use oversampling with the saturation, but not that much to avoid having too much of a CPU hit.

Regarding transient/sustain split: we decided to leave this out of Pro-Q 4 for now as we had to stop somewhere. :)

Thank you for your answer.

Pls consider giving oversampling options, as mentioned in the first post. This plugin deserves it as its best eq on the market.

Transient/Sustain - in version 4.5 then haha? :)

Yes, please consider adding transient/sustain sooner rather than later. If the transient/sustain option could be combined with spectral EQ (using spectral EQ only on the transient portion leaving the sustain alone and vice versa) that would be wild.

If Pro-Q ever gets pitch tracking like SurferEQ then it's game over, FabFilter wins! :)

Hello!
Thank you for another incredible update to my favorite EQ plug-in! I have one request that other users may also benefit from:
For the longest time across all prior versions, anytime I need to deselect what is highlighted I just click on empty space in the EQ window, which would deselect everything (as you had to click the line itself to create band points).
Now anytime I click anywhere im the window, a new band Point is automatically created, and it is going to be extremely hard to unlearn that decade + of muscle memory!
Would there be any way to implement a setting that offered a ‘one time toggle’ option for the paintbrush feature? Where if selected, clicking in empty spaces of the window would result in the behavior we are used to from prior versions, de-selecting everything, while giving us the option to click the paintbrush to temporarily toggle the drawing feature, which would automatically deactivate after drawing a curve. Just as an alternate option, with the default installation settings and behavior being as-is, if that is what’s desired. I would love to see the option to have pro-q4 still behave in the same way as prior versions when clicking on empty space in the window, allowing the workflow I am ever so adapted to!
Thank you very much for some of the best tools in audio!

If a one time paintbrush toggle feature is a bit over the top, even just the ability to simply turn paintbrush functionality on and off, to allow clicking in empty spaces of the window without creating band points would be amazing!

Uncheck "Auto-EQ Sketch" from the "Help" menu in Pro-Q 4. It will disable the automatic sketching and one-click-in-empty-space bell curves. If you want to use sketching after that, there is a paintbrush icon in the bottom left of the Pro-Q 4 window.

If you have a band selected, clicking on the background will deselect everything, and the curve preview when hovering over the background will be dotted, showing that you need to double-click to create a new curve.

If no bands are selected, the curve preview will be solid, and clicking will directly create a new curve. We hope you can adjust to and appreciate this new behavior, but if not: the Auto-EQ Sketch option is there to help you out.

Of course we worked with these new features extensively before the release and found them to be a definite time-saver when making new curves -- but it does require a slight readjustment.

Cheers,

It would be fantastic to have an x32 oversampling option, similar to the "Superb" mode in Saturn. This would be incredibly helpful for achieving the highest quality results during the rendering phase.

To address potential CPU strain during mixing, I would also like to propose adding an option to enable oversampling exclusively for offline rendering. This would allow users to work efficiently during the mix without the high CPU load, while still benefiting from maximum quality during the final render.

I believe such features would greatly enhance the flexibility and quality of Pro-Q and make it an even more powerful tool for mixing and mastering engineers. Pro-Q has set the gold standard in audio processing, and adding these features would elevate it even further, ensuring it remains an indispensable tool for professionals striving for the absolute best in sound quality.

Thank you for considering this request, and I look forward to seeing how your fantastic products continue to evolve!

Best regards
