mono compatibility in pro R2

Pop Filter Pro R2 manual states that when the stereo width knob is turned up past 100%, the side signal level increases, which supposedly helps improve mono compatibility. However, isn't it typically perceived that when the side signal level increases, the overall amount of reverb decreases when downmixed to mono? Wouldn't this potentially have a negative impact on mono compatibility? What does the manual mean by stating that it helps with mono compatibility?

In this case, the "wet" reverbed signal is slightly cancelled out in mono mode which helps to balance the reverb with the dry signal. With stereo playback, you can have more reverb before it drowns out the dry signal than with mono playback.
