Twin 3
I also hope Fabfilter haven't abandoned synth development and will make a successor to 'Twin 2'.
In my opinion, 'Twin 2' is still a highly underestimated synth. And I say that while also owning most of the other industry favourites, like all the major 'award-winners' from the likes of u-he, gforce software, kilohearts, synapse audio, etc.
Still, 'Twin 2' holds its own. It has a knack of fitting really well into almost any production mix, with minimal effort. And of course comes with many great 'usable' Fabfilter presets. Something, many other synth developers could learn a lesson from.
But I would echo the sentiments of the OP. Should you ever create another great update to this classic 'Twin 2' synth. Please try to keep the user interface just as user-friendly.
As just recently, some of Fabfilters' latest plugins have started to become rather less accessible than they used to be in previous versions (Saturn 2, Timeless 3, Volcano 2) esp. their more convoluted GUIs and modulation systems. Which is a shame, because up until these most recent major updates, Fabfilter had never put a foot wrong. Hope this isn't a trait that will continue.
^ [typo] ... I meant Volcano 3 ;)
And once more, I strongly disagree about the GUIs and modulation system being worse. The v3:s of timeless and volcano are i m o infinitely much better than the V2:s. I actually stopped using the V2:s alltogether due to the infinite sliding panels on main gui, and endless scrolling of modulators. Also, the new ones have a lot more flexibility and functions, with great graphical representation of what’s being modulated, and how much. You can adjust automation amounts either on the knob being modulated, for each modulator modulating it, or on the modulator as before, adjusting the amounts of all things it modulates. It’s flexibe, quick, logical and overall pretty great.
I'm sure they're working on this if not almost done. Volcano 3 came out a year ago and with it improved filters. So it only makes sense to upgrade their synth with the new filters, new UI styles, effects, etc.
Good point, I think the same - Twin 3 soon! :)
Yeahhh!!! youtu.be/Emclmc_dZWw
Initial recation: Looks good, will very likely be an upgrade. However, two missed opportunities i m h o:
1: No inter-osc FM/possibility to use an osc as mod-source?
2, Previously suggested, but: XLFO Random step, being able to adjust the random range/per step.
Awesome job to FF and the sound designers. Loving this thing so far. The new preset browser is a very pleasant and welcome surprise.
Just put a wavetable oscillator in there, and it's all over - (for many other synths).
King
some stuff;
.no way to re-order the fx. A chorus after reverb and delay? Can be fun, but all the time?? Weird decision
.ringmod between osc 1 and 2 / osc 3 and 4, but no FM, PM, AM, crossmod...bummer
.only 6 lfo's...
.no way to change osc's (types) with modulation (internal, per voice)
.some nice filter types, but i would really like to see some other choices; no combfilter?
.no gate control in the arpeggiator
.no crossmodulation between LFO's (LFO 1 modulating speed of LFO 2 -> LFO 2 modulating speed of LFO 1; not allowed...)
.ARP speed cannot be modulated (internal)
i dunno...it sounds really good, but i hope they add some extra stuff to spice stuff up.
Unfortunately new scaling feature is not that great (like in Waves plugins for example), it looks blurry compared to other plugins with UI resize.
@Orestes: Can you email a screen shot that looks blurry to you to us so we can examine it?
@exm: There's a Legato slider in the arpeggiator that lets you control the note lengths. And FX order does not matter very much since most effects are linear processes.
Cheers,
"And FX order does not matter very much since most effects are linear processes."
Do you mean the FX run parallel in the signal chain or something? Otherwise it does matter quite a lot to have a reverb BEFORE the delay and not after. Re-ordering effects would be my feature request too. Also , why no EQ? Look at your amazing EQ! :)

A chorus after a reverb or delay is very different compared to a reverb or delay after a chorus. Same applies to the phaser and distortion.
But, since the fx is good, but way too limited, i am using external fx (which is a shame really..since the basic sound is good)
I don't know where to write comment so I'll do it here.
Twin 3 is actually great sounding synth!!!!!
Two things were strange to me:
1. Lots of mixed and negative comments on Youtube.
2. When I tried Twin 3 these days (and its my, so to say restricted experience of this synth) I thought its somehow sounds dry, uninspiring.
Also lots of other synths compared sounded more attractive, more inspiring when you listen sound in isolation.
But then I said to my self, lets record something, 3, 4 tracks with beat to hear how Twin is behaving.
So I put Twin in music context and I said wow!!!!!
Then I tried to record something on top of it with "other" synth then, before inspiring sound, started to feel like toy.
Twin 3 sounds so fantastic and polished.
Somehow I think it will become my first synth and much more in use than Twin 2 was.
In really miss a volume and dry/wet knob for every single filter or did I overlooked it?
Filter routing is maybe one of the most important parts within Twin 3, so it should have flexibility.
Dry/wet and volume for every single filter are good modulation sources and also to tweak it.
@Michael: Dry/wet doesn't really work like you would expect for minimum phase filters because they alter the phase response. That causes strange effects when you mix in the dry signal. And output level per filter would be handy in parallel mode but we decided to leave it out in order to not have too many filter options.
Cheers,
I would really like a new version of Twin, named: Twin 3,
This would be nice, because I like the overal concept of Twin: One page with everything on this page and a intuitive usage.
But there are some features and fixes, which would it be even better, so maybe Twin 3?
-add to the filters a dry/wet control, very handy
-add a individual signal flow for each oscillator, one oscillator to filter one, one oscillator to filter 2 and one oscillator without filter as example
-add random value at midi trigger modulator within a certain range
.........
maybe:
-as example loading a sample would be nice. (no extensive editing, just loading a sample with some basic options)
