Changing plugin presets causes Ableton to lag

Hi, I'm new to working with DAWs and plugins, so I apologize if this is a stupid question.

When I'm cycling through the presets of say, Pro C2 or Timeless 3, while monitoring the audio signals passing through Ableton Live, Ableton will lag for a brief second or two, interrupting the audio and also disrupting the clock signal Ableton is sending out to the rest of my studio. Is this normal? Should I not be switching presets in a "live" scenario?

Some info about my setup:
Mac Studio (M1 max, 32gb ram)
MOTU 828es (48k, 24-bit, 128 buffer)
Ableton Live Suite 11(master clock)
Variety of other synths and eurorack

Thanks for your help!

Hi Bradley,

switching presets while running a DAW should usually not be an issue. However, both Pro-C 2 and Timeless 3 can use incoming MIDI to adjust parameters. It's possible that the fact that the plug-in changes, which may cause plug-in delay changes as well, means your system will need to reclock.
