Independent Dry Level control in Timeless 3?
It's not possible to adjust the dry level besides using the Mix knob.
The biggest feedback we got on Timeless 2 was its steep learning curve, which even kept some people from using it. When we designed Timeless 3, it was one of the main goals to make it more intuitive and creative, and less technical to use, or less complex. We have received a lot of feedback that people like the new workflow of Timeless 3, even though some experienced Timeless 2 users also admitted that it took some time to get used to the new way of working.
In regards to Saturn 2, there is not a lot that changed workflow wise. All functions and buttons are still the same. We did update the modulation section, but besides a graphic overhaul (including the visualisation) and adding some additional features like the sliders, not a lot has drastically. In fact, we feel it only made the plug-in more friendly to use.
If there are any specific issues you find complicated we would of course love to hear.
Cheers,
I like to use delay effects as both Inserts and Sends.
But more often than not, the former. With Timeless 2, I had no issues using it as an insert effect, and was very straightforward to control, due to the separate Dry and Wet levels.
Typically when I use insert delays, I don't want the delay plugin to automatically attenuate the level of my incoming dry audio, only add to that Dry level with the delay effect.
What frustrates me the most about Timeless 3 is how, you can't easily control the Dry and Wet mix levels independently. This makes Timeless 3 too fiddly and practically unusable as a quick and easy insert effect.
Since in order to hear the delay, you have to increase the Mix level above 0% which always attenuates the Dry audio level.
Or am I missing some vital information / workflow here, when using Timeless 3 as an insert delay? Since, even with the Wet level set to 100%, Timeless 3 will immediately start attenuating my Dry audio input as soon as I raise the Mix level above 0%.
Timeless 2 works equally great as both an insert or send delay.
Timeless 3 seems to only effectively be be useful as a send delay.
I'm all for gain staging but this works counterintuitive to my production workflow. I usually dial in a quick rough mix with all audio levels set as I would like them before adding effects. When I start using Timeless 3 in Insert, it almost always ends up with me having to boost the gain to compensate for the plugins attenuation of the Dry level.
Please tell me I'm doing something wrong and there's something blindingly obvious I'm missing here. Because this workflow is nowhere near as efficient as it was previously with Timeless 2 (which I still usually end up using instead, due to this workflow), despite owning both plugins.
I believe Timeless 3 gives you 2 ways to accomplish your goal, as explained in its documentation: www.fabfilter.com/help/timeless/using/delaycontrols
Mix slider settings of 0% - 50% leave the dry signal alone. You could create a preset or even save over the default preset to make Mix start at a low value like 10% if its your most common use case to just mix in a little wet signal alongside the unchanged dry signal.
Wet knob gives you more control. So, for example, you could always leave Mix slider at 50% (which means your dry signal remains unchanged and you also have a significant amount, likely way too much, wet signal) and use Wet knob to turn down the wet signal however you like. So this is an alternative present you could use for your most common use case: 50% Mix slider, Wet knob at a low value like 25%.
I use Timeless 3 like this frequently.
But I can imagine uses, maybe ones you use a lot, that would be finicky. Making dry signal louder than it originally was while leaving Wet signal as is would be tricky (but still doable). Making wet signal super super loud (way louder than most use cases, louder than dry signal) while leaving dry signal as is would be tricky (but still doable).
I hope this helps.
How to I access and adjust the 'Dry Level' in Timeless 3 as compared to in Timeless 2, where it is clearly situated right above the 'Wet Level'. If it's something to do with the Wet Mix level, then I find that kind of
Also, perhaps it's just me, but I am finding some of your most recent updates' (namely, Timeless 3 and Saturn 2) especially with regard to their user interfaces (both the controls and modulation workflows), to be somewhat less intuitive and as easy to understand as their predecessors were.
Wondering if this 'more complex' approach is a trend that is going to continue in future, wherein your newer plugins updates' user interfaces controls become less obvious and user-friendly than their older versions were?
Thanks.
