Hi Guys,

I want to master my song. I put a limiter on the master track and pumped the gain slider up until i would see 1-2 dB of gain reduction at the loudest parts. This has lead to a rustle in all of my vocal tracks even at the parts where there is no audio. For example if i solo verse 2 while actually playing verse 1 i can hear a really loud noise. Anybody knows what Im doing wrong?

You're trying to fight a war that has long been over - the loudness wars are dead & buried thankfully. Back off the gain on the limiter and don't look for any gain reduction but rather to catch any possible overs. You're destroying the dynamics of the music with what you're doing. The limiter is doing nothing wrong - just acting to how you have the parameters set.

In mastering you want to have tunes gel together with each other on a cd; it's not about making things as loud as they can be.
