Scalable UI
With current hi-res displays, this is a must have. I am thinking about buying a high resolution PC, but I guess VST plugins would be definitely unusable.
It has our interest, but it would be difficult to support fully flexible scaling and have high-quality graphics at all scaling levels. We're leaning more to supporting Apple's Retina screens in the future, but it's unclear how high-res screens in Windows would work in the same way in the future...
Cheers,
I appreciate that it's probably a giant pile of work, but there are some pretty high quality examples of available UIs that are scalable— all of the Logic X plug ins, Madrona's Aalto, Valhalla DSP's stuff, and I'm sure there are others.
This is more than just a retina display issue, though. My 17" MBP has 132 dpi, and my old 23" Cinema Display is 98 dpi, yet they both display the same 1920×1200. The FabFilter UIs are dandy at 98 dpi, but they are really small when 30% smaller at 132 dpi.
At any rate, thanks for considering it. Love the FabFilter stuff.
I would also like to vote for an option of having a larger GUI size (in Pro-Q specifically). Not necessarily a "scalable" interface, but just some kind of option for choosing Small/Medium/Large (akin to what's done in DMG's Equilibrium) would really do very nicely. Do not want to switch to DMG at all, as I much prefer FF's workflow and intend to stick to it; but after moving to 27", working with Pro-Q suddenly became much harder. Please do consider providing a larger interface option. Thanks and Happy New Year FabFilter!
Absolutely! You can expect to see this in a future Pro-Q update. I can't promise a date yet but we're working on it. :-)
Cheers,
I'm so looking forward to this :)
I too would also love to see this feature!
I don't know what happened, but I just installed the latest updates, and the text on the GUI looks terrible. The dropdowns are still fine, but it looks like some smoothing algorithm came along and messed everything up, making text well nigh illegible. Please fix this, or tell me what happened!
Nevermind, I just found the answer here:

I'll throw in my +1 for this suggestion as well. I too don't think it's necessary with a fully scalable UI, but something that uses the 2560 x 1440 available pixels better would be nice. The current UI (of Pro-L) is 640 x 480, which is an OK size for a 1024 x 768 monitor, but for anything larger than that, it's just unnecessarily cramped and fidgety.
If the graphics were vector based (most of the curve-based stuff has to be vectors already), scaling would work beautifully automatically (except below a given threshold of course; but you can put a minimum size limit on the window). I don't really understand why the graphs and curves in Pro-L, Pro-Q and Pro-MB can't fill my entire monitor.
Using more screen real estate in your plugins would make them easier to use, especially for people with poor eye sight. I really hope you can consider this in a future update.
We agree and we'll add this to future plugins/updates where possible.
Cheers,
Would be really amazing to have the Fab plugs in bigger size. Keep up with the newer screens, guys!
yes it is very disappointing! changing gui size is mandatory!! i've bought the fabfilter pro bundle and i'm reluctant to use the plugins because of the small size of the interface as opposed to my other plugins!! i'm not an old man with bad eyesight and yet i'm not comfortable! please change this aspect as soon as you can no matter what!
One thing that would really improve usability for me is to have the UI of the FabFilter plugins be scalable.
All of Apple's Logic plugins are now scalable, as well as plugins from some other manufacturers. Given the different DPI of various screens, this is becoming a must-have feature.
FabFilter has some of the nicest looking UIs in the business, but scalability would make them even more useful.
