Pro-Q: requests

Hi Fabfilter-crew.

Congrats for your very well thought-out EQ.
I bought it instantly after checking it out.
I'm using the Pro-Q in professional mastering. What's annoying is just two things right now:

1.: In M/S-mode, I really want newly added EQ bands to be default in stereo-mode, not just M or S. Most of the time, most bands are affecting the whole stereo range and only some bands are just on M or S.

2.: The output-metering is not suitable for mastering. I'd like to have a much bigger meter (look at the Sonoris MEQ maybe), a pre/post-meter (maybe switch together with the analyzer?) would be even better.

That's all so far. Hope you'll incorporate the changes.

Thanks, Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

The behavior in M/S mode is: when you drag the M or S curve to create a new band, you'll get an M or S band. On the other hand, if you create a new band by double-clicking on the background, we use the mode of the currently selected band. So if a "stereo" band is selected, and you double-click, you get another stereo band. Hope this makes sense.

We didn't really intend for Pro-Q to be the last plugin in your mastering chain. In fact, we have a great limiter plug-in named Pro-L that comes with all metering options that you need in a mastering situation.

The meter in Pro-Q is mainly intended for hosts that internally clip the output signal between plugins (Pro Tools HD). We didn't want to add a larger meter because you don't really need it 99% of the time. However, feel free to try to convince us otherwise. :-)

Cheers,

Frederik (FabFilter)

Hi Fabs,

I agree with Sebastian about the metering. For me having a big output meter is more of a subconscious thing. When there is an output meter that is easily visible it makes me more conscious of my gain staging, and not to clip, which is very helpful. Honestly, I'd love to see the Pro-L's big output meters on every plug you guys make. It makes the process easier and adds piece of mind to the producer/mixer/engineer. Check out Waves new H-EQ for this. Big input meter on the left and big output meter on the right. Although I like the idea of input and output meters next to each other as well, to see the difference.

My 2 cents...

Absolutely agree about the large meters for EQ and PRO L !
