Random delay time

I'm a delay addict and adore Timeless2, it's a great plugin. But I recently bought a cheap synthedit plug called "Ditto" which does something I've been looking for a long time... random delay times.

Is there an easy way to replicate this in Timeless2 ?

Richard

I believe this is possible if you modulate the delay time with an xlfo.

click any step number of the xlfo to show a set of knobs and buttons to the right. clicking the box labeled 'random' will produce a random value for that step.

hope this helps :)

Can't seem to get it working. Any ideas ?

Richard

which part isn't working?

I punch up a "clean" delay, I add an xlfo and set the steps to random. But the delay time is still determined by the main controls. I've tried every variation I can think - dragging xlfo control to delay times etc. Can't get anything happening to change the delay time at all.

Can you be more specific about what I have to do ? Or if you're a FF person maybe post a patch somewhere that I can see how it works ?

thanks

Richard

try the preset in basic called "random stereo delay" see if this is not what you are after. it uses xlfo to modulate the delay in step time and not ms, it also has a mod wheel modulation for xlfo frequency which may be helpful.

then again, maybe we are talking about two different things? it would not be the first time there were translation errors on the internet haha

Those xlfos only seem to be able to effect the offset, and that seems hard to tame into any particular parameter range, eg: 4t, 8t, 8, 16t. If I switch them over to delay time they no longer allow random amounts.

It really seems to me that Timeless2 doesn't do random - or at least doesn't do it in any sort of obvious, controllable manner. Which is a pity.

Thanks for your help.

Richard

What are you talking about? Just assign an XLFO to the delay time parameters, and adjust as you wish..

Jovas

If only it were that simple. That does not work. The only random time effect I can get to activate is an xlfo on the offset which is a poor hack.

But I'd be overjoyed to be proved wrong with a patch demonstrating a modulated delay time.

Richard

i'm still a little confused by this..

a random xlfo -> delay time equals random delay time, both in ms and step time.

the only thing i can remotely think of is to put the xlfo into stepped values by clicking the little piano button above the glide knob, as this seems to give more 'musical' results..

of course the xlfo must be working properly for this to matter.

  • if you haven't yet, check out the fabfilter channel on youtube.

the timeless videos are very well made.. maybe there will be something in there for you.

Nope. Doesn't happen for me. I'll contact support. All I really need is a patch showing whether this really works or not.

Richard

*bump*

can anyone throw this man a fish?

Hi Richard,

I've just sent you a Timeless 2 preset that gives you random delay times. Let me know if this is kind of what you're looking for! :-)

Cheers,
