Pro C 3 Auto Gain
Autogain does not add any additional compression or processing. What the manual is trying to say is that auto-gain does not apply gain based on the actual audio signal, but rather on the combination of a couple parameter settings. Mainly the Threshold and Ratio setting determine the amount of auto-gain. If auto-gain would be dependent on loudness of the actual signal it could indeed vary during a session based on the signal, which is not something you would want.
Hope that clears it up.

Hi,
I'm using Pro C 3 for speech, podcast and some music production.
On speech I'm using the "Up Front" preset with some minor adjustments.
When enabled, this defaults to having Auto Gain on.
But I also noticed the manual states
"Note that the auto-gain algorithm doesn't actually measure loudness to determine which gain to apply. It just makes an educated guess, so you might want still to tweak the output gain in some situations."
Am I better off just leaving the Auto Gain off? It seems convenient, but don't want there to be artifacts, pumping ...etc.
Thanks!
