Circular Delay from PCM 70
Happy New Year 2026!
Product: Timeline 3
Feature request:
As an end user I want to define the amount of signal per-tap sent to the feedback buss as a factor of the overall 'Feedback' setting so that I can simulate some early Lexicon algorithms.
Description:
The preset named "Circular Delays", using the "Multiband Delay" algorithm from the Lexicon PCM-70 (v2) and earlier Lexicon 224X is very popular with guitarists based on it's use by famous musicians such as Steve Lukather.
The Lexicon 224X user manual pg. 4.42 (see therackofages.com/Lexicon/224x%20digital%20reverborator/Lexicon-224X-owner-manual.pdf) shows a block diagram of this algorithm, being practically identical to the better known PCM-70 incarnation. The Circular Delays preset includes 3 taps (Band Delay 1-3) with varying delay times, level and stereo pan (see hugeracksinc.com/pan-circular-delays for a full description). Timeless' 'Diffuse' setting is a very good fit for this emulation.
A quirk of this algorithm is that only Band Delay 1 and 2 is used in the feedback loop - meaning that the 292 ms delay does not output to the feedback buss (even though it's input receives feedback from the other two delays' feedback).
Problem:
Timeless 3 has, for a stereo plugin, an overall feedback setting for all taps, although this can be reduced per L/R channel with Feedback Pan. The settings for each delay tap can already be configured to set whether its enabled, set it's level, it's 'Time Factor' as a percentage of the overall Delay Time and finally it's Pan position. Currently there is no per-tap setting for the level sent to the feedback loop.
Proposal:
Each tap should have a setting (e.g., Feedback Factor) for the amount of signal output to the feedback buss as a percentage of the overall feedback setting (Feedback). This factor, as a percentage, would mean that, e.g.;
Notes:
There are probably uses outside of my Lexicon emulation example for this feature but this is my "mother of invention". I hope I haven't missed a fundamental feature in the existing plugin that would allow this post-diffusion feedback config.
